Head of penis still hard, while rest limp

Ok so this morning I woke up and was feeling kind of horny, and the girlfriend is out of town, so i masturbated. I then put some clothes on while still sort of hard, and went about cleaning up my house. About 10 minutes later I went to get in the shower and noticed that the head of my penis was still hard, and sort of a darkish color, and the rest of my penis was very much limped. I absolutely freaked out, and started squeezing and rubbing it really soft to see if that helped, the swelling went down within the minute. Probably the longest minute of my life. There was no pain at all. What could have caused this?
