Postive ANA - swollen glands

by Melindaki, Apr 07, 2008 07:23AM
I am a 30 year old female who has historically been very active and in good health.  In December I went to Germany to visit my sister.  While there, I had some glands on the base of my skull and behind my ear swell.  They became 4 or 5 times their normal size.  It was very painful.  When I returned home in January I went to my Primary Care physician.  She gave me some antibiotics.  The glands got smaller, but did not go back to their original size.  Since then, I have had multiple bouts of cold like symptoms and recurrent mild fever.  My PCP gave me more antibiotics.

I have been getting headaches that originate from the glands swelling and causing muscle pain on my scalp.  The aching on my scalp eventually prompts migraine-like symptoms.  The back of my neck and base of my scalp are always tender to the touch.  I also have tenderness in my under-arms.

Most recently I have a tightness in the muscles in my upper back, shoulders, and ribcage.  I went to get a massage to try to release some of the tension, but within 30 minutes of the 1 hour deep tissue massage, it was like I never went.

After 3 months of symptoms after symptoms, I'm beginning to feel like a hypochondriac.  My PCP sent me to get bloodwork and I just got a call that I have a positive ANA.  She wants me to see a Rhuematologist.  But I don't have any joint pain or swelling.

Any ideas or advice?
