Stage two prolapse

by carahboo, Apr 07, 2008 01:21PM
Hello-
I had a vaginal delivery in January. The recovery nurses did not measure my urine and I was sent home w/o being able to completely empty my bladder. The delivery was difficult and the doctor had to use suction to pull the baby out. The doctor/OB also inserted a catheter right at the end of the pushing to empty my bladder- trying to create more room for the baby's head. I believe that this is where the damage was done to either the bladder or the urethra. I nearly died due to my bladder holding 6.5 liters of urine. I went to the ER after 48 hours of pain. The ER doctor could not believe that my bladder was still intact. She had never seen someone hold that much urine before, (almost 11 pounds). Although I had complained of preasure and pain to the recovery nurses and my own OB before leaving the hospital, they all ignored me and told me that this was normal discomfort for a new mom. RIGHT! We are now seeking legal action against the hospital.
I am now having problems with a prolapsed bladder. I saw another OBGYN to seek advice and help. He actually did an exam and told me that I had a stage two prolapse. I am not going to see my old OBGYN because she almost killed me. I am also under the care of a urologist because I was unable to urinate for two months due to the bladder injury, The urologist has put me on bladder training and did a urodynamic test. The results concluded that the upper muscles are not contracting the way they should, and I have a weak urine stream. I am still using small catheters, (self-cathing twice a day). The urine measures between 25CC to 100CC. I am supposed to go back to the urologist in three months. I see the new OBGYN again this week.
My questions:
Should I insist that I have the prolapse be fixed?
Will the prolapsed bladder get better w/o surgery?
Thank-you

God bless you, I don't know what has happened to the Nursing Profession. Its very sad for me to say it has been lost for the most part as a Vocation. Its terrible. The most simple of nursing skills to measure or at the very least check on yout patients intake and output.  I am not one for litigation but I have to say sometimes they really are asking for it! Shame on them all!

Thank-you for your support. I am trying to find another OBGYN that my insurance will cover because I do not trust the group that I was assigned to. I do not want to take legal action against the hospital, but it seems like I am being jerked around. No one wants to fix my prolapsed bladder, and it is tugging and bludging into the vaginal opening. The latest OB told me that I should get back into my exercises, sex life, and that there is no need for surgery. I used to run three times a week, and was active during my pregnancy. I tried to run, and it felt like something was tearing down there. I just want some help, and a good doctor! Whenever I lift my baby in his car seat, I feel pain in my vaginal area. This is not normal! I should be able to lift my own child w/o pain. It has been three months since the delivery.

Yes it sounds like a prolapse from what you have said. I would try and see a urogynocologist they know exactly what they are looking at, unlike some doctors, who really do not know....I know mine didnt...it was funny.....it was looking right back at her (my cervix) and she thought it was the urethra opening.....ugh...so find someone that specialty is this...urogynocology.....no one else. Not even gyn. Mine sent me to urogyn..and I am so grateful! Good luck honey.
