How old is your son? If he's younger than 4 it's kind of up in the air. And as far as maturity goes, that's up in the air...  Around age 2, they thought I was severly retarded (and deaf)  My hearing tested out fine...  Likely if it were modern times and not the 1980's I would have been first dxed as classic autism.. But as time progressed, then it was "Atypical autism" and at age 6 PDD NOS.

Herse something kind of neat I was reading earlier.

Where abouts are you, UK or USA?
What professionals are involved with your son at present?
How old is your child?
Any difficulties you are experiencing now.
If you can answer these questions it will help you get a answer more relevent to your situation.
Regards.

It was suggested to us that just read wht you can about all types of autsm and whatever you read, you can pick and choose what applies to your situation.

For example, if he is verbal and you read stuff about PECS and facilitated communication, well you can skip those chapters and read on to the stuff about pragmatics or onto something else.
