Lap Band Follow-up

by Ineedone2, Apr 09, 2008 12:52AM
Hi.. I live in Canada.   If I'm going to have Lap Band surgery in say Mexico, who does follow up, fills, etc?   Do I have to travel back and forth to Mexico?
Thanks.

Live in Arizona yet had the LapBand put on in Texas (usually visit there 2 to 4 times a year). A doctor in Az wants $400 for a fill and one of the hospitals wants $350 so I will wait till I go back to Texas ..... it's free.

Believe I need a fill as I plateaued last December (4 months ago). No big problem as it gives me time to better evaluate and further improve my eating habits before visiting Texas mid May.

I would think very carefully before going out of the country for any type of surgery. There have been some successes that have been over shadowed by real terror stories. You do not want to be one of the unlucky one's that has to deal with a problem. There was a story about insurance companies not paying to correct problems caused by elective treatment/surgery done out of the country. You might want to check on how your insurance company feels about out of country procedures..

Have lost 140lbs so far. It has given me a whole new life!! Would not hesitate to do it again. Just remember the Band is a tool...it is not a cure. Good luck to you!
