Can you have both Narcolepsy & Insomnia?

I am a 35 year old female and have stuggled with insomnia for over a decade. Without medication I can only sleep about 2 hours a night. I've been taking Amitriptylene for about 10 years. It was the only medication that helped. Within the last year I have been asleep at night but I started to develop symptoms of Narcolepsy. I always want to sleep and I can't concentrate. I tried lowering my dose of Amitriptyline but then I coundn't sleep at night? I've been to dozens of doctors and no one can find what is causing this problem. Antidepressants havn't helped. My doctor wants me to try Ritalin or Adderall. I'm hesitant to do this because I'm afraid of what might happen if I take a downer at night and then something to wake me up in the morning. I've even tryed Neurofeedback. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to find out if i have narco now. I have a sleep study at the end of the month. Have you had a sleep study? I have insomnia and symptoms of narco too. What symptoms are you having?
