Ladies I need your wisdom...

by amberd5191, Apr 10, 2008 11:01AM
My two year old son will not stay out of the cat litter pan, we have put up gates (he climbs them). I have locked the cats up during the day so he can't get to the litter they get mad and retaliate on my other son's (4yrs) bed. I am at my end of the rope with this issue, its very disgusting and I have ran out of ideas. I am actually very seriously considering just getting rid of the cats which I would hate to do (one is 4 the other 5). However, I have so much on my plate right now that I really can't handle much more of this situation. So if you have any advice I would really love it...I should probably mention I have also moved the cat box a few times...but with 4 kids, and college work I can't keep doing this. Thanks ladies!

Put it in a room, cut a hole in the bottom of the door just big enough for the cats to get into, and show them where it is. Voila!

Lol its funny you say that, I brought that up to both my husband and my mom, my mom had a stink fit about what if Nathan trys to climb in after them...Of course my response was "well then I call the fire department" lol, obviously I wouldn't cut the hole that big, but I think her comment warranted sacasm :) Thanks Andi, I think I will re-approach this idea again! :)

Hahahahahaha

T is 18 mos in the following picture, taken at my in-laws house with their cat door:

The opening is far too small for an infant to get through. It is literally only 6 inches wide at most and 6 inches tall.

Still trying to get through it:

If you don't want to cut a hole in your door - you can build a box to fit around the litter box with a hole in it just big enough for the cats to get through.  (I'm a vet tech and thats one of the ways we tellowners to keep their dogs out of the box).  Is he eating it?  If he is - I know this is gross , but it can't be any worse than eating it, wait for cat to have b/m or  urinate (whichever he is into) and get to it before him- pour hotsauce on it and let him try it- he'll never want it again.

No thank goodness he isn't eating it! Just dumping it out all over the floor (and throwing the feces at his brother) Yuck.

My in-laws tried that and the smell permeates the box, wooden or otherwise with a horrible stench and they have one of those littermaid things that automatically cleans the box. But when cats go, they bury-aka- fling!

On a funny note, my life was saved by a littlerbox when I was about 18 mos old. I fell down a full flight of stairs and had the litterbox not been there to catch my fall, I would have landed on a concrete floor.
