Breast Lump on a 11 year old

by magdalen, Apr 10, 2008 01:14PM
A sudden lump has developed on a 11 year old girl (overnight) only one sided and very painful.  She has no signs of adulthood yet. Should I be concerned about it or is it part of normal development that has started?

Dear magdalen, It could be related to normal development and starting puberty.  It is unlikely that this lump is breast cancer.  You may want to have her pediatrician check this for you.  They can put it into context, and evaluate as needed.
