Lung infection/kidney mass/thyroid mass

by jeni757, Apr 10, 2008 02:58PM
Hi,  I'm hoping someone may shed some light on my mother's numerous CT scans.  She's 55 diabetic.  Recently, she started losing weight for no known reason.  Her doctor ordered numerous test one for which was a CT scan.  The first scan showed many enlarges nodles and ground glass in her right lung lobe..  Course of treatment was repeat CT scan in three months.  Second Ct scan showed more nodles and ground glass.  Also showed a questionable mass on thyroid and on her right kidney.  Dr. performed bronchoscope and wash.  No cancer was detected but rather an infection in the same class as TB.  She is being referred to an infectious disease doctor for further eval and hopely to determine what type of bateria so that she can be treated.  My main concern is the additional masses on her thyroid and kidney.  Could they be related to the lung infection, since they were not present during the first CT scan?  There was also a 7mm mass on right breast that did not show up on mammogram done two months prior to the second Ct scan.  If this is indeed a bacteria lung infection would it spread to other organs?  Also, what is the chance of her passing this infection on to my 5 year old son who has severe asthma and is currently taking prednisone, advair, and singular.  We both live with her.  Any help or guidance is greatly apprieciate.
