Beginners Workout Plan? I Need To Get Fit

by JSB33, Apr 10, 2008 09:31PM
I'm not sure how to start and continue on an exercise plan to get fit. I had a c-section about 6 weeks ago and I really want to start on some type of exercising to lose about 40lbs and stay fit. I'm 5'9 wt 200lbs. my height hides most of my weight but I feel miserable being overweight with a big tummy, thigh and hips. ........When I stopped smoking my weight jumped from 150lb to 186lb in less than a year and then 20 more after my 6mo pregnancy. I have never had a problem with weight until now.

I want to do something about it but I don't know how or are where to begin... Any suggestions on a beginners work out plan? I must lower my blood pressure and cholesterol, does exercise a play big part?

Thanks
JSB

Start by walking...then read the article on beginning a running routine on www.traxee.com  its a women's running site that I also check out...anyway great article...I wanted to get back in and trim down./..its hard and it helps to have motivation and quick expert advice...for women by women.  You can do it.  Hang in there and get to work...Two babies later, I am looking and feeling amazing... Best wishes hon.

Hi JSB33, how are you? Since you have underwent cesarean section couple of weeks ago, you need to slow down on the exercise program. Speak to your gyneacologist to get examined to see the scar if it has completely healed and can withstand sudden exertions. If you want to plan, do take advise of an physical therapist who can well plan. It is common to gain little weight in pregnancy and may come back to normal in couple of months. Can you post your blood pressuer record and lipid profile if done? Do not cut on your diet as you may be breastfeeding the baby with intension to reduce weight. Daily morning-evening brisk walk, regular stretches would do. Share your thoughts and take care.

I agree, so soon after a major surgery I would consult my doctor before starting a work out program.

You can do something about your cholesterol with your eating habits while you are waiting to be ready for fitness. All saturated and hydorgenated fats contribute to cholesterol and all unsaturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated oil help reduce cholesterol. The body converts saturated fats into cholesterol, but the other (good fats) help transport the (bad fats) out of the body. Try replacing any butters, processed foods with saturated fats with olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, omega 3 fatty acids like safflower, soybean, sunflower, corn oil, or flaxseed oil. Avacados, almonds, salmon, trout, and all cold water fish contain the good fats also.

Then later when your health condition is ready, yes, exercise does help.

Good Luck

Hi JSB33, how are you? Hope you have started to chart out your fittness schedule and also might have sought some help from dietician. It is good to get an advice from you attending gyneacologist to know how you can plan to reduce weight without having much post delivery problems. You need to focus on strengthening the abominal muscles. Also plan on a balanced diet rich in fruits and vetgetables. Keep drinking a lot of water as to combat the increase need due to lactaion. Adequate sleep and rest to body is also important. Keep updating on your progress and take care.
