*~~ Two-day Cyber Party -- Karaoke Nites!! ~~ *

by learninboutlife, Apr 11, 2008 06:29PM
Hey everyone!! :)
Just thought we try for a cyber party tonight and tomorrow night -- a Friday and Saturday party!!

And carrying from the last party .. how about karaoke nights! Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" was the hit song at our last party -- and the song was stuck in my head all weekend! ...thanks Laney! I got a karaoke machine for this weekend -- so make your selections :)

Party starts tonight at 8 pm Eastern -- so in like half an hour or sooner if folks are around! :) And will last as long as everyone wants to stay up! And then back to it tomorrow evening from 8 pm eastern until whenever!! :)

K, well I have lights burning outside so the jacuzzi is well lit and no one should fall getting out there! Margarita machine out here too for those of you who might be interested -- help yourselves whenever you get here! Hope to see you all soon!! (((hugs)))

Fran :)

I'll just have "Sweet Caroline" playing so you'll know which house to stop at when you get here!!

Playing in the background: ((((.......Good times never seemed so good .......I've been inclined...... to believe they never would......))))

A "two-nighter"!!!!! What a great idea. I hope you don't think we are all going to help you clean, though (what happened to your big night of cleaning?).  Well fire up that karaoke machine with a little Lynard Skynard and "Free Bird" (who can remember the lyrics?). I will take that margarita and raise to you all a plate a nachos (am I smelling a Mexican theme party, for tonight?). Oh, I hear "Good times never seemed so......." I must be at the right house....."HI, everyone!!!!"

by learninboutlife, Apr 11, 2008 07:10PM
Hi Shari!!! :)

Mmmmm Mexican ... I like it!! :) Yeah, good idea ... everyone can help me clean!!

(For those unaware, I am cleaning my apartment ... so after the party .. I could use all the help I can get .. when I start stepping on clothes to get to my mirror ...it's time to clean up! )

Anyways, I need help with the Free Bird song ... not coming to me ..  :) I know some "oldies" but there is a chunk of time I don't know anything about! Hmmm ... well I better get some tacos ready! ....any requests? Help yourself to a margarita!

But if I stayed here with you girl, things just couldn't be the same, 'cause I'm as free as a bird now, and this bird you never change. enter guitar riff now. Ah the good old 70's.

I really am going to disappoint you all!!!!!  I won't be able to sing tonight. Lori got me started singing a little too early with her John Denver and trip to Boston journal.  I have been singing Please Come to Boston all day. The kids are all here so this will be the only time I can pop in. Besides, I am a very crappy housekeeper, so I don't think I' be much help to Fran. Have fun. I'll be around for part 2 tomorrow. Maybe I'll sing a little Stevie Nicks or some Heart. HA!

I reckon that song would be on youtube, it's quite long and the second half really rocks, sweet caroline it ain't.

That's what big sisters were for back then Shari, even though I was young I still wanted to listen to my sister's music.

by Shari4444, Apr 11, 2008 08:37PM
I guess we'll have to be Fran's big sisters and yeach her hoe to
                              really rock!!!!!!!!

Well since you all know my age now,  lol, my songs are from the 40ts  and 50ts,  The Big band era. Even when I hear them today, on my Golden Oldies Radio show,, I tend to reminisce and cry a little. Some of the best love songs of all time, were written during WW2. You all are too young to sing along with me on those songs. Records cost 35 cents each,  I had hundreds of them. The ballrooms all had the name bands to play for dancing, cost 50 cents to get in. After school  the YMCA opened its doors to the teenagers  for dancing to the Juke Boxes, from 4 to 6.  Our parents didn't have to worry about it, no drugs, no booze  no sex, just music and dancing. Band concerts in the city park every Sunday with picnics spread out every where.  If I could only take  you all back there  to those times, I know you would like it. ,  All that is left of those times now for me, is we do have band concerts every Wed and Sat in our parks and also my radio music.  At every class reunion I go to, one of the highlights of the week end is the Jitterbug contest,  I have won it  many times.   I am so sorry  you all cannot have the memories  of that time that I do.  From 1941 to 1950, America was one Nation.  After the Big bands disappeared I turned to country. Now they are not the country that I loved.  I did one recording  for my hubby for Christmas  many years ago,  Stand By Your Man, he laughed his head off.   Marty

by Shari4444, Apr 11, 2008 08:53PM
Sounds great, Marty...the Big Bands...Dancing....just a simpler life! Some of these girls are probably wondering what a record is...and for that matter...how ANYTHING worth having could cost $0.35!!!!!!!!!!!!

by learninboutlife, Apr 11, 2008 08:56PM
:) At least I know what records are! Might not know songs in particular .. grew up with "oompa" songs as Lori likes to refer to my ethnic music ;) ... well, to my great surprise .. I went to take a shower .. no hot water, that was pleasant, or not!!!

...maybe part 2 tomorrow will be better ;) ...  usually more folks around on Sat. night!

by junamgen, Apr 11, 2008 09:04PM
I guess you must be very hunger by now. I'll make some fresh spring rolls for you all.  Keep singing  and have fun.

I'm gonna be the second one to be the party pooper. I was the first to delve into those margaritas. We needed more food to soak up the booze. Have a great party, girls.

Sleepy hugs,
Shari

As to the 35 cent records  well I started working as an aide at the local hospital at age 14  and my wages were 10 cents an hour. so had to work 3 1/2 hours for each of those records. My big brothers taught me to dance  before they all went off to War.  I was the baby of the family and the olny girl.  movie cost 10 cents, we all complained when they raised the price to 12 cents and charged $3.50  for an adult to see GWTW, swimming pool 10 cents, ice cream cone a nickle,  bread and milk 10 cents,  When I first started dating my hubby  gas was 19 cents a gal.  that was 1947.   I finally got a raise to 35 cents,  after 4 years of becoming a nurse , my starting wage, with a degree, was $1.65.

by learninboutlife, Apr 11, 2008 09:13PM
wow, Marty ... 1.65 ...  I just can't even fathom it really ... funny how things have changed. Makes me wonder what things will be like in the future!
