question about HSV-2 test and positive

by benbasic, Apr 11, 2008 07:05PM
I recently tested positive to HSV-2 Ab IgG positive with no parameters listed out of DLZ Laboratory in CA to my shock.Ive always had safe sex with condoms with the occasional oral, mouth to vagina on the women ive dated.Never had out breaks either.I have scar tissue on my penis from poison ivy since before sexual activity but never open soars. Now that i look back the blood test i had in dec 06 had a .02 EIA "in range" value but the doctor said i was fine at that time. What are the ranges for neg, positive? my latest test does not list them.Is this recent test possibly false positive? Im not sure on the type of test done but it was through DLZ lab here in LA. The doctors down play this whole thing  and just push some valtrex on you but id rather be sure before spending $$$ on suppressive therapy. Im thinking of retesting and western blot test.any help thanks?

What does "no parameters" mean? Open "soars?" That would be when birds are released from cages and are able to fly free ...

Your test in 06 was negative.

I can not access the lab online who did your blood work. Give your provider a call monday and ask what blood test they use. They can call the lab and see if they have numeric values to go wtih your hsv2 results or not. Some labs only do report with a + or -.  Condoms do not prevent hsv2 infection 100% but it's certainly worth the peace of mind to repeat your blood testing for hsv2 with a different test.  Plenty of places in CA to get that done at fairly cheaply.
