23 pound gain AFTER cosmetic surgery!

by Rainy2008, Apr 12, 2008 07:02PM
On March 31, 2008, I had 9 pounds of extra skin removed plus a butt lift, tummy tuck and breast implants. On the morning of surgery (3/31/08), I weighed 180 pounds. This morning (4/12/08) I weighed 194--remember I had 9 pounds of skin removed! At this point I am up a total 23 pounds of fluid which is primarily in my legs and feet. I have cut out all sodium and have been drinking more than 100 ounces of water a day and have not been able to get rid of the excess fluid on my body. Additionally, I have my feet elevated above my heart as often as possible.

--Is this normal?
--How long should I expect this to continue?
--Is there anything else I can do to expedite the process?

After any major surgery or trauma, there is a normal biologic and endocrinologic reaction of salt and fluid retention.  The magnitude of your surgery corresponds to the magnitude of your weight gain.  This will take several months of healing to resolve.  Stop weighing yourself or stop being obsessive about this temporary weight gain.  It will disappear over time.
