9 & 1/2 weeks pregnant, detect no heartbeat on abdominal utlrasound

by piggy227, Apr 12, 2008 10:05PM
I am about 9 & 1/2 weeks pregnant. Yesterday, I did an abdominal ultrasound & the tech told me that they cannot find a heartbeat. I still have pregnancy symptoms & no bleeding or cramping at all. My Dr. suggest me to do a DNC as soon as possible. Should I wait a little longer or do a vaginal ultrasound? Is it possible that the abdominal ultrasound cannot pick up the heartbeat by 9 & 1/2 weeks?

Thanks!

So very sorry to hear your news. It's very sad.
I experienced the same thing last October, at 10 weeks, and it was heartbreaking. Like you, my body still thought it was pregnant, when in fact the foetus had stopped growing at 8 weeks. The doctor intially just did a rudimentary U/S then a vaginal and send me for a formal U/S and there was no point in proceeding to a formal vag. u/s as the news was definitive. I was given the choice of waiting to miscarry naturally or have a D& C which I chose 2 days later.
I shouldn't think that they would recommend a D&C if they thought that there was any hope, I'm sorry to say.
You're in my thoughts x

I am so sorry to hear your news.  I have had this experience twice in the last five months.  Most recently I went in for a u/s abdominal and vaginal at 12 weeks and the tech found no heartbeat.  I went to see the dr later that afternoon only to find out that I was pregnant with twins both of which passed away at an estimated 8 weeks. I was shocked and heartbroken that I had had another m/c just 4 months after my first m/c. I too had no symptoms of threatened m/c and was feeling very pregnant.  I had a D&C the following day (4-1-08).  I am still feeling very shocked about the whole experience.  Again I am sorry for your news and i know how you must feel.

I am so very sorry. Just like on of the other girls said could you dates be off or anything like that? And yes at the very least if you ask for a vaginal ultrasound they should give it to you. They need to measure you utersus to make sure your that far along. Plz keep us posted. Blessing  to you and yours Rachel
