MGUS

Thank you for the reply re MGUS.

I was diagnosed with a Serum IgG in 2005, it was noted that the serum creatinine was 116 and hypercalcaemia [serum calcium, was 3.1 mmol/L. In 2006 it was noted by the neurologist that I had IgG kappa paraprotein [7g/L] No Bence Jones, normal skeletal survey, minimal plasma cell burden on bone marrow biopsy, but I was Hypercalcemic and had an elevated beta 2.

Nerve conduction tests showed that the peripheral neuropathy was an upwards Moderate, with nerve biospy not possible, due to having had Bi-lateral TKR.

IV infusions of Pamidronate has normalized the calcium and paraprotein fell to 2g/L, beta 2 remained elevated however. I have had a course of Intergam and also Melphalan and Dexamethasone [4 months]. I have persistently elevated levels of methyl malonic acid and homocystine levels mean I have biochemical B12 deficiency [being treated with injections!

My haemo and neuro are awaiting neoplastic associated antibody markers from overseas now.

My haematologist initially thought it might have been MM or even Amyloidosis. But he has ruled that out now. Latest thoughts are that it might be Sjogren's syndrome, and Plasma Cell Dyscrasia. Can all these things cause the peripheral neuropathy? is there any chance that when they find out what is wrong and treat it, I might recover from this? The neuropathy is affecting both my feet and legs to above the knees now. I am unable to walk without a walker, so my balance is very poor. Both my hands are affected also, the right being worse than the left.

What causes this sort of thing????
Thank you for reading this
