Question on Ovulation Kits

by adgal, Apr 13, 2008 12:22PM
Hi Everyone,

I am a little confused on exactly how the ovulation kit works.  I know it detects a "surge".  Is this prior to the egg dropping, or at the same time?  Also, is it possible to get a positive for ovulation and still not actually drop an egg that month?  I will be starting chlomide next cycle.  Will I still get a correct reading on an ovulation kit?

Thanks so much for any information you have.  I appreciate it.

First, OPK tests detect LH surge, not ovulation.  The surge happens 24-48 hours prior to the egg dropping.  Since sperm lives 24-72 hour in your body when you get a positive OPK it's a good time to bd.

I used OPKs when I took clomid.  However, you have to start testing about 3 days after the last clomid pill or else you may get a false positive.

You can find a lot of infor about OPKs as well as using OPKs with clomid at:

Good luck!!
