my two year old only weighs twenty pounds and is often pointing inbetween her rib cage and says that it hurts.  this pain in her abdominal area has been present for about four weeks know and i am really starting to worry that something is very wrong. I  need to know what it could be and what to ask her doctor to test for.

At age 2 she is far below the growth curve and you have a good reason for concern. If she suddenly lost weight I would explore more acute things like infection or other inflammatory problem, if she has always been small work with your doctor to explore more chronic things like thyroid disease, celiac disease, malabsorption or rare but important cystic fibrosis.
Bloodwork is helpful and dietary history is critical. Get her see and the doc should know where to start and if she needs referral.
