Is it REALLY a UTI?

by xdorax, Apr 13, 2008 08:40PM
I have had UTI for quite a few times.

This time, it started round early feb, I went to the nurse mid feb and had 3 day course of antibiotic and the symptoms were gone for a short while (2 week or so).

Then I had it again and the symptoms were very obvious for the first 2 weeks - cloudy stinky urine, burns when urinating; tried sodium citrate for a few days... following drinking tons of cranberry juice again(not taking both at the same time) and suddenly all symptoms were gone for 2 days.  Then, I started feeling discomfort(not burning) when urinating - my urine is clear-ish and doesn't stink like before.

I went to the doctor 3 days ago, got 5 day course of antibiotic, my urine is clear and doesn't stink but am still feeling discomfort.  Is it REALLY a UTI? or does it sound like my UTI has complicated to something else ?
The dr didn't really do a urine test when prescribing me antibiotic but he did push where my kidney/bladder are and ask if i feel pain.

I had no back pain/fever or anything else.. but just discomfort when urinating.  HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP?!?

Thanks

Hi,

Your symptoms suggest that this is likely a urinary tract infection. Your symptoms may have responded with the antibiotic but it is possible that the infection has not fully resolved given the discomfort that you are still experiencing. A repeat urinalysis and urine culture may be able to help. Also, are you male? You may also need to have prostatic secretion culture and urethral swab culture done just to rule out involvement of the said structures.

In cases wherein UTI's are recurrent, an ultrasound of the kidney, ureter and bladder may be necessary to exclude underlying structural abnormalities.

Were any of these done?
