Yes it sounds something like we have heard before and there can be many causes. The back pain may be still be related to your epidural and I suggest you go back to your anesthesiologist for evaluation if still persistent.
The numbness can have a neurologic and vascular cause. Sometimes if the blood circulation is not adequate (maybe due to atherosclerosis), you experience numbness and tingling of your hands and feet (specially if you position them wrong during sleep or while working). A neurologic cause can be ruled out by formal testing. I suggest you consult with your doctor to have that examined. He may request tests like NCV (nerve conduction velocity) to pinpoint the problem.
Meanwhile make sure you have a balanced diet and a good supply of vitamins (specially vitamin B complex) since these vitamins are essential for proper nerve functions.
