Hashimoto's and dermatitis

by beruck, Apr 14, 2008 10:47PM
About 18 months ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Initial onset of symptoms resembled ulcerative colitis, so I experimented with various diets and found that eating gluten-free was very positive, even though I tested negative for celiac disease. Since treatment for hypothyroidism and these dietary changes, I have no synptoms of IBS or UC.  I was originally on Armor, but my doctor switched me to a combo of Armor and Cytomel because my T3 count was still low. I generally feel absolutely great, though I continue to have mild cases of other automimmune conditions, including Reynaud's Syndrome and mild psoraisis.

A week ago I suddenly developed a severe itch on one ear lobe, and thought it was an allergic reaction to the jewelry I was wearing. It then turned into a more general rash across my neck and upper chest -- no visible blisters but redness and small bumps, very itchy. I would have scratched to the point of bleeding had I not applied Benedryl cream.

I just read that this is possibly dermitis herpetiformis, related to the Hashimoto's or celiac disease. What kind of doctor can best diagnose this?  Can you point me toward resources on this topic? Are there known dietary contributors to this kind of condition?
