MRI for 5yro long term bowel & bladder problems

by Sonaya, Apr 16, 2008 01:40PM
Hi my 5yr old daughter has chronic long term refractory constipation with bladder problems as well.  She has had consitpation and blocked up since the first incident at 6wks of age and has gradually been getting worse since she gets older.  She is under the care of a specialist gastro pediatrian who has done quite a few tests already to rule out hirschsprungs disease and cealiacs disease.

It has now been recommended she be put under general anasthetic to have a spine MRI because the bladder problems are getting worse and reoccuring along with her constipation issues.  He said it was just to rule out problems that could possibly be causing her problems from the spine but did not elaborate on what.

Ive never known if it is just her and normal or if it should be something to be concerned about but she gets tired out very very easily upon physical activity and she has always had a bit of trouble putting on weight even though we monitor her diet because of the consitpation we try very hard to ensure she gets good source of nutrition and food intake.

I am not sure about this MRI and the exposure to radiation and she has never had anasthetic before.  What are your thoughts.
