Arguing

by bestteacher, Apr 16, 2008 02:15PM
My grandson will soon be 4 years old.  He loves to argue.  It isn't that is says "no."  He thinks he already knows everything.  He seems unteachable without disciplining him first.  Is this normal behavior?  What is the best way to handle this without stifling his growth?

Children can only argue if there is someone arguing with them. If he argues when he is given a direction, repeat the direction only one time and, if he does not comply, place him in time out for 5-10 minutes. Absolutely do not engage in an argument. The behavior is normal, it just needs to be managed. Look at Lynn Clark's SOS Help for Parents for very useful guidance about this common problem.
