Dear Strike3,
You are correct in that some rules vary from state to state. The good news is that the HIPAA is a Federal Law & the eligibility rules are same for most States & as long as you obtain another coverage within 62 days of your COBRA expiration, you
maintain your eligibility; however the guaranteed issued plans/products available for HIPAA eligible individuals vary from state to state.
You can visit http://coverageforall.org/our_services.htm#apps for a nationwide health insurance matrix including alternative health insurance coverage, available to HIPAA eligible individuals.
Since you disclosed you may move to the east coast, I should mention that NY & NJ States are guaranteed issue to all applicants (means they will not decline or rate anyone on the basis of their health history) & if you happen to move to one of those states, simply visit www.eHealthInsurance.com for free Health Insurance quotes and/or apply for the plan of your choice.
Sincerely,
Amir Mostafaie
