Changes in a "mature" mom

by Jenny100, Apr 17, 2008 02:01PM
For those who had a baby in their twenties, and then have also had a baby in their late thirties, I'm just curious: what things did you notice yourself relaxing more about? What changes did you see in yourself as a mama in your twenties, and then again in your late thirties?
I will have to post my changes later.... baby is crying!!")

I hope you don't mind me responding to this post since I'm in my mid 40's.  I had three babies in my 20's and one at 30 and now another at 44.  Anyway, I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference and I think the reasons are that I'm not working full-time, I don't have a toddler/preschooler to chase after & I have a dh who's willing to help around the house.  I certainly didn't have that in earlier pregnancies.  I'm probably more apt to be tired this time around & definitely I've been hit by hyperemesis that wasn't there in previous pregnancies but my weight gain and blood pressure have been better this time around than in previous ones.  I'm more nervous this time around though and I think it's because so many things have changed since I've had babies & it's confusing.  It seems too that I'm more aware of all of the things that could go wrong & that makes me anxious.

I had a baby at 18, 25 and now. The thing I am more relaxed about is the baby sleeping peacefully. I can remember I used to be petrified that they would puke and me not know and then they would suffocate or drown in their own vomit. The baby getting dirty, walking in grass at a young age, (both my other two never touched bare feet in grass til they were over a year!)

This time around though I can tell you that I am paying lots more attention to my body changes overall. I notice every pain, every time I grow bigger, every time the baby gets bigger! EVERYTHING!!

I can't wait til he comes, then I will be able to answer this question with lots more detail....lol

I had my babies at 27,32,37, and now 39. I had no energy this time around and overall this pregnancy was so much harder. I had vaginal births with the first three, but due to complications I had a c-section with Sidney and had lost alot of bleeding and then a blood transfusion, and a blood clot, so needless to say this has been relly a slow recovery for me and I swear the post partem depression is so bad this time. As for the rest, other than having a wild 2 year old and a newborn I am okay. Is anyone else suffering from postpsrtem depression?

Well, I had to get in on this one. I had my first baby the day before I turned 21, my second at age 27 and my last at age 39.  I am more relaxed when the baby is screaming or crying for no reason.  When I was young, that really freaked me out but now I am totally calm.  In just about every other area though, I think I am way more paranoid.  I have read and researched too much. I am paranoid about germs, who holds him, about leaving him with anyone, the bottles I use,....you name it, I'm paranoid about it.

To saj39: I don't have postpartum this time but I did with my second child. I took medication for it given to me by my OB at my 6 week check up.  It really helped.
Good luck.
