Am I a diabetic?

I am a 42 year old married woman. My dad was a diabetic. I have been having a dry throat and mouth the last few days, have been drinking a lot of water, and peeing as much too. When I went to the clinic for a blood test, I was 129 fasting. I was told that I have diabetes. Is this curable? What precautions should I take to keep the sugar normal?
