Rare Abnormal EEG Results

by chksjnll, Apr 17, 2008 10:13PM
My son recently had an EEG and the neurologist said it showed a rare abnormal wave pattern in the left side while he was sleeping, but all tests while awake were normal. What could this mean or be??? I was told that they weren't sure what would cause this. I am having an MRI done for him soon to see if anything shows in that. If nothing shows there, they will schedule an ambulatory EEG to be done and if that shows nothing, then I shouldn't worry about it. I thought that if an EEG showed some abnormal results, than it had to mean that there was something that would cause that. Is this something I should just forget about if they can't find out why? How will I know if this abnormality is causing his symptoms or affecting his development if I never know what it means or how to treat it?
