Endo and severe bowel pain/ Instestinal Endo?

by ACraftyChic, Apr 18, 2008 06:31PM
I will try to make this short but precise.  In 2002 I had a lot of back pain that could not be explained by any doctor and was actually told it was in my head.  A trip to my ob/gyn left me having a laparoscopy and finding that I had a little bit of endo.  I was told I had some on my sciatic nerve that couldn't be removed.  I did lupron shots for 6 months, then birth control until we decided to try and get pregnant again.  After having my second c-section in 2004, the doctor did a laparoscopy to check for more endo since my pain had returned and he did an ablasion (burning of the uterus wall to prevent heavy bleeding and a tubal litigation (tubes tied).  Now in 2006 I started having severe "IBS" symptoms:  diareha, constipation, extreme intestinal cramping and noticed that when I was having my periods, my bowels would have blood in them.  I had a colonoscopy, CT and MRI with no luck.  So I was diagnosed with IBS, although none of okthe IBS meds would help.  Actually nothing helped.  So last week I went to my OB/GYN and immediately he told me the endo was back.  I asked if it could be up in my intestines and on my sciatic since I was having pain in my right leg/hip as well as pain in my right ovary.  He said that it was unlikely and that endo aggravates IBS.  But i'm reading that endo is often misdiagnosed as IBS.

*Brief history: my mother had a hystorectomy after YEARS of terrible abdominal pain and the doctors telling her nothing was wrong.  She had endo so bad that it had wrapped around her intestines and attached her uterus to her bowels.

How common is intestinal endo and how can I assure that during my next laparoscopy (next Thursday) he will look and make sure even though he doesn't think it's likely?

I been where your at,I have same problems and pain and had laparscopy a month ago and they found moderate endo on my uterus and adhesions had attached my small/large bowel together,to my uterus and adominal wall.It isnt in your head,I was told same thing..and I dont believe its all IBS either.Dr took off what he could but I'm still having pain/symptoms,I either live on imodium or laxatives..ugh!
Endo is often confused with IBS,and its common to have bowel issues and pain with it,especially during my periods and rectal bleeding too.My best friend has endo and has same issue too..so were not alone.Take care, keep me posted!
