Breast reconstruction after radiation

by MaryHS, Apr 18, 2008 10:08PM
I have a tissue expander that was fully expanded during chemo and will be deflated for radiation in June.  Doctors will try to re-expand it after radiation.  Reconstruction will consist of using some of my own tissue and a small implant.  I understand that this has not been done very often.  I am trying to maximize my chances for success by minimizing the impacts of radiation and whatever else I can do to make the reconstruction surgery successful.  I understand that this deflation / re-inflation procedure is not done very often.  Any advice?

I have not heard of doing the inflation/deflation but sounds reasonable.

It sounds as though you will have additional surgey for reconstruction.

Best of luck to you
