Growth - is it too late?

by dethklok, Apr 19, 2008 03:10AM
Hi, I'm 15 years and 6 months. I stand at only 5'4 (1.64m) tall. My mom is 5'2 (1.57m) and dad is 5'4 also. As a baby, I was quite big, (I was 34 inches when I was 2) and ate a lot. During my primary (elementary - middle) school years, I didn't eat much, and had a really poor diet. I was about the same size as others until when I was 12 when everyone started getting bigger than me. I never did a lot of physical activity either. My diet improved when I was about 14 1/2, I started eating a lot more, veges, fruits and stuff and started taking multivitamins. From 13 years to 15, I've only grown from 5'2 to 5'4. I had also started doing more physical activity, walking more, swimming and basketball.

I've also noticed that my limbs, hands, feet, are smaller in comparison to my head. Is there a problem? I look pretty normal, but my hands are small. I know height is determined by genetics but my uncle and aunt are both 5'2, and my cousins are 5'9, 5'8 and 5'2. I hit puberty when I was about 13 1/2 but haven't had any significant growth spurts.
My friend is 3 months older, was about 5'1 when I met him, now he's 5'6, his parents are shorter than mine, his lifestyle is pretty much the same - where have I gone wrong? Is something wrong?

Thanks, sorry for the wall of text

P.S. Does sleep affect anything? I try to get as much as possible but I only get about 5-6 during school, but I sleep an additional 1-2 after school.
