Treatment for Carcinoma In Situ of the Bladder

What is the usual treatment for Carcinoma In Situ of the bladder?  We were told there would be six week segments of chemo every three months for a year.  Then six week segments of treatment every six months for another year.
Is this the most current treatment?

I think you may be thinking of BCG treatment, which is the accepted standard of treatment for CIS. This is really called immunotherapy. BCG is a TB vaccine which has been shown to prevent recurrence of bladder tumors in a majority of patients. It is inserted into the bladder by catheter and the patient is asked to refrain from urinating for at least two hours. BCG has a cumulative affect on some people and they tend to get flu-like symptoms the more they get treatment. There are chemotherapy agents urologists use, such as mytomycin, but what you're describing sounds like BCG.

The doctor is currently using BCG treatment.  My son has had three treatments already.
He was told the pain in the bladder/prostate area, along with the burning during urination would subside after two or three treatments.
The pain is still the same, and my son is beginning to get discouraged with the treatment.
Isn't there another chemo (interfuron) that is sometimes used in addition to BCG for this purpose?
