Granddaughter's weight and overall development

My granddaughter turned two years old on March 24, 2008.  She still weighs 19.5 lbs., she obtained this weight a little after her first year.  She is not interested in food. She will eat a little pasta, or fresh fruit, etc., but not enough of anything to be sufficient for normal growth.  She drinks a little milk, and has been drinking Pedasure since her last doctor's visit. She is very pale, and has unusually dark circles under her eyes.  She is an extremely active child, but seldom focuses on anything, even for a two year old.  Eye contact is seldom sustained for morethan a few seconds.  She only says a few words.

My son, the baby's father, is in the US Air Force and has been for over 25 years.  We are well aware of the often inadequate medical care and follow up done by military doctors.

We are schedule next week for a first time real look into the baby's health and weight.

My questions is..........what should be checked, what test might we expect, and should we expect a referral to a specialist. I just want to be sure everything was checked out that should be.

Thank you so much for your help.
Sincerely,
Liz

It is hard to say without knowing the child's background. They need to find out the reason why no weight gains in order to treat your grandchild. They will more than likely do a full check up (cardiac, gastric, etc) with complete blood-work and if they recommend a specialist, then go to one. Best of luck.
