Numbness After Surgery

by iona1, Apr 19, 2008 01:47PM
My mom was dx with ovarian cancer stage 3C.  On Apr 7th she had surgery.  Since this surgery, she has had numbness in her left thigh down to her knee.  Sometimes her leg gives out on her so she must always use a walker.  Has anyone had numbness after surgery and if so, about how long did it last?

It has been 12 days since her surgery, if she had a total hysterectomy , then the broad ligament that holds the uterus in place  is often misplaced and since it contains many of the passages of the nerves going to the lower extremities, then there is possible temporary  nerve damage.  Getting up and walking is good for her, ask the doctor about some exercizes for those leg muscles.  Almost any surgery  does cause numbness in some part of the muscle system, nerves are cut and some must find new paths to perform  their functions.  It takes time for this to happen. the walker is a good idea to prevent her from falling  and also it will get her up and moving about  and that is very important
