Daughter with pneumonia

by Jackie813, Apr 19, 2008 06:00PM
My daughter age 6 unfortunately develops chest infections (pneumonia) after each cold.  She has not been diagnosed with asthma, she hasn't been diagnosed with anything.   I want to have her tested for allergies.  Should she see a specialist?    She is on singulair and just recently, flovent... both as a preventative.  She has been on singulair for over a year and obviously this medication doesn't seem to help prevent the lung infections.....  My daughter just returned home the other day from the hospital diagnosed with pneumonia.  I want desperately to help her.....  there has to be something we can do to prevent all of these pneumonias or lung infections????????

Thank you

It is a good idea to see a specialist that specializes in respiratory diseases of children.  This can be a Pediatric Pulmonologist or a Pediatric Allergist.  It is possible that this is asthma, as the medications she is taking are prescribed for asthma.  It is also possible there is some other cause.  A specialist can help provide answers and start your daughter on a program to prevent these illnesses.
