I wish it were that easy. The quick answer is eat few calories and exercise. Reduce the amount of carbs (rice, bread, potatoes), and fat (oils, fatty meats, sweets) will help reduce the calories. You can start exercsing just by walking and then build up to something else.

My recomendation would be yes calories in should be less than calorie output. Eat more fruits and vegetables because they fill you up by consuming much less quatanties of food. Make sure you eat sufficient protein also 12-20% of your daily intake. With cooking be sure to eat Unsaturated fats which include Olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, safflower, soybean, sunflower, corn oil, or flaxseed oil. When using a butter spread avoid butter and all other hydrogenated/Saturated fats. The saturated fats consume more fats and increase our cholesterol. A good guide to help you get back on track is www.sparkpeople.com because they will calculate your calories for you and calculate how much protein, fats, and carbohydrates you are consuming that are within or outside of your daily requirment.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
