Foot discomfort! Help!

by tomhf, Apr 20, 2008 04:55AM
Hi all! For the last 3-4 days both of my feet have been in discomfort. It started as a small ache in my mid toes, then kind of gradual pain which spread to my ball and now it's gone to the heel and ankles.

I'm not sure if it's related but last month I hurt my mid/upper back (pain around shoulder blade with niggly spots around) through over exercising in the gym. I haven't done any high impact running or anything, and shoes are proper fit. I've stopped entirely this month to rest the bck. But even though that's getting better my feet are getting like this. Have never experienced anything like it before. I went to see the doc yesterday but he put it down to muscle/ligament strain and didn't seem to bothered to listen. I'm not convinced as it feels like it is going to spread and maybe weaken. Sensation is kinda odd too. Any thoughts? (24yr/male)

I have pain in my feet a lot too.  Are you lacing your shoes too tight?  That always makes my feet hurt.  You could have bone spurs (that's what I have), but you're young for that.  Another possibility is Plantar Fascitis, that's very painful and hurts the bottom of the foot.  If they hurt when you first get up in the morning and try to step on them, then it's probably plantar fascitis.

Sometimes I get pain just from a certain shoe.  Try changing your shoes.  My doctor told me never to wear the same pair all the time because then the pressure is always in the same spot on your feet.  If none of this helps, then maybe see a podiatrist.

Heya! thanks for your reply and view! Hmm could be the shoes but they really well fitted and cushioned. It's really odd because it started as a small ache in the middle toes. Then after a week it was difficult to walk on the ball of both feet and on hard surfaces bare footed. Now it's affected the heal and ankle of both and I feel my symptoms might spread upwards. This has all come on four+ weeks after I stopped intense activities because of my mid/upper back!. Just been going on with normal activities.
