Prickly feeling in penis

by Larry328, Apr 20, 2008 09:54AM
Last August, I was masturbating with soap and must have gotten a little carried away- I broke the skin just under the glans and the ring around the circumcision line abraded.  I continued to have sex with my wife.  About six weeks later, I noticed that the abraded area had darkened and the consistency of the skin was different than it was before- it looks inflamed and a little scaly when pulled taut.  A small area (about 2mm in diameter) of scaly skin appeared as well.  It was at this time that the area underneath the skin and in the urethra started to itch- the sensation is similar to prickly heat rash.  I also noticed the capillaries in in foreskin became more prominent.  I had the obligatory STD panel and all the blood work came back negative.  I saw a dermatologist and he didn't see anything out of the ordinary.  He prescribed an antifungal based on my symptoms.

Now it's 8 months later and the prickly feeling has not abated.  Physical symptoms (dark ring around foreskin and small area of patchy skin) are unchanged as well- no better, no worse.  I went back to the dermatologist and he is convinced that I have a normal-looking penis.  He offered to biopsy the small scaly patch, but advised against it because a "blind" biopsy would be difficult to diagnose.  I know that it does not look the same as before the "trauma."  Regardless of appearance (which I can live with), the annoying feeling inside the skin continues to bother me.  At times, the itch is unbearable.  I have a consult in to a urologist- is there anything I should mention?  Also, don't know if it's related or not, but I started getting severe headaches focused on my right jaw (similar to TMJ) about three months ago that have gotten progressively worse.

I recently tested negative on a UTI test and my wife's pap last month is normal.  I'm debating whether to repeat the STD panel, however I don't think it would show anything given that I had to done six weeks after the initial exposure and most everything would show up by then.  Is it possible I got an opportunistic infection that got in through the skin?  The doctors have not prescribed antibiotics based on the negative blood work and that my symptoms don't really fit a standard algorithm.

It could be that you just have a nerve ending that is causing the problem. When you have a nerve that is acting up, the itch can drive you crazy at times.
