periodic slurred speech and periodic off balanceness/unco-ordintation

by Philg517, Apr 20, 2008 09:58AM
I am a 49 yr old MALE (1 mon. shy of turning 50) I amd in pretty good physical shape, I don't smoke, or drink, or take meds or narcs. I exercise and walk 5 days per wl/ I go for yrly physicals.
And just came out of an extensive hospital testing stay at Mt. Side Hospital in Glen Ridge, NJ. last Sat.

I am normal and can function but every 4-5 mins, I slur my speech and gt unco-ordinated. My leg stiffens uf, sort of like a bubbling within me, and as mysteriously as it comes, it passes and I an back outof it.
I am about 210 lbs, and 6'1" tall. Blood pressure and cholestraol is good They have done 2 MRIs, ultra sounds, and extensive blood ND URINE SAMPLES and a spinal tap. I am still waiting for result 4/24. They are guessing that I may have MS and are treating me w/ drugs to get down the inflammation. They see 3 legions on my brain, (not big but think that 1 is causing the episodes.

But I still don't have an answer for a 2nd opinion.

THANK YOU!!! So much for your response. The waiting and not knowing is the hardest. Now that I look back on my life I see small signs that were 1) misdiagnosed or 2) I didn't fully pursue.  One way or another I hope to get some answers on Thurs afternoon 2 pm EST.
It is a big adjustment and life learning experience for me. If this is the prognosis, what did you do in the early stages, how long have you been diagnosised, what is your regiment? how are you getting along?

I forgot to add, at this time, I don't have any pain, just periodic slurred speech that comes and goes every 5 mins or so and lasts about 8 seconds. 1 second I am talking clear and the next is sounds like I have marbles in my mouth. Also..... the un-balanceness and unco-ordination is simultaneous with the slurred speech.

I am still waiting for Thurs. afternoon. They have done 2 MRS, sona-gram and a spinal tap for fluid. That and everything else. i.re blood & urine..... What else should I be asking?
What is the treatment?
Phil
