Precarinal lymph node

by Rick905, Apr 20, 2008 11:06AM
CT scan shows 1.5 mm calcified pulmonary nodule right upper lobe. there is minimal atelectasis or pleural thickening along the right middle lobe. there is no axillary or mediastinal lymphadenopathy although a precarinal lymph node measuring 12x6 mm is seen. there is no pericardial effusion. Also the spleen is enlarged measuring 16cm.What should I ask my doctor to do,and should Ibe concerned.?

Hi.  What prompted you to have a chest CT scan done in the first place?  Were you experiencing any symptoms like cough, blood in the sputum, or weight loss?  If that pulmonary nodule is not causing any symptoms and was only discovered incidentally, one option would be to just observe for now and repeat the chest CT scan after 4 months, to see if the nodule changed in size. The other option is to do an immediate biopsy of the nodule.  The advantage of taking this option is that you will know your diagnosis sooner instead of later.

Hi.  Since your pain is on the left side of the chest, the pulmonary nodule, which is located in the right, probably doesn't have anything to do with it.  There is no urgent need to treat that pulmonary nodule at this point, so you may opt to observe and repeat the CT scan after a few months.  The nodule is also rather small at 1.5 mm, to be suspicious enough to warrant a biopsy.
