Been living with PCOS for 13 yrs....

by Vessel4god, Apr 20, 2008 05:20PM
I've been reading some of oyur stories and questions... I've had pcos for about 13 or 14 yrs now (I'm 35 yrs. old), and havent' had a hysterectomy yet... I was to young when my dr. suggested getting it done (maybe 22).  I've been through the fertility problems and miscarriages and was blessed to have 1 son, that is healthy and 13 yrs old. now.

When I started having problems, i kept having miscarriages back to back, i would make to 13 -16 weeks then loose the babies, i think in total I've had 7 miscarriage, 2 d&c, but I've never had any pollups built up inside my walls.  My cycle when i had them maybe  once or twice a year they would last a month or longer very heavy.  I would sometimes have to wear a 2 pads and a tampon to control the bleeding, my doctor tried birth control, but it made the bleeding worse. So he put me on Aygestin which I've been on for years now with no problems.   I don't have a period at all, and haven't had one probably in 4 yrs, which is ok with me, but if I stop taking my Agyestin for a few days then I will start spotting.

The pain from the pcos was unbearable for a long time, where i couldn't get out of bed for days, but i later started taking Naproxen 500mg as needed and that seemed to help the pain but the trick was to start taking the pain medicine a few days before your cycle started, or once the pms hit you.

i was suppose to have IVF done when my son was 2, but by the time I was divorcing my first husband, so no need to try and have more kids.  But my Fert. dr, also ws the one who diagnoised my diabetes also from the skin tags or dark spots that I developed between my thighs and breast and on the back of my neck.  And he start me on Metformin, and the weight pilled on, so be very careful with Metformin.  it caused me to be sick all the time with nausea and dirrhea (needless to say that eating fiber and wheat will help alot with that problem)

I became insulin resistant, and it has taken me a long time to get my diabetes under control due to my sensitivity to insulin, and finding the right endocrinologist to get me on the right treatment plan.  I'm now on a insulin pump to control my diabetes and debating on finally having a hystorectomy later this year since my son will be going to high school in the fall.

I have a ton of cysts on both my ovaries, and when those suckers swell up, it's like being in labor all over again.  For those of you trying to get pregnant, there are ways that you can, you just have to be patient with you body. I was having miscarriages so often that i stopped even going to the Dr. to find out, I just knew, and my body was taking care of itself, and I would start passing blood clots, that would sometimes be as big has my hand, that i would pass while using the restroom... relax, relax, relax...breath alot during this process, and allow your body to rest and relax...

I hope this helps some one...

God Bless,
Vessel
