Autoimmune Hep Labs

by PennieLane, Apr 21, 2008 12:02PM
I was wondering that is someone had autimmune hepatitis would there liver enzymes be constantly elevated?  I've been having hepatitis type symptoms (itchy skin, nausea, loss of appetitie, joint pain, upper right sided pain, fatigue....) for about 2 months now.... I have been tested numerous times for  Hep A,B and C and they are continuously negative... also negative for the Estarian Barr (EB) virus as well,  However I've had my liver checked through blood tests about 4 times in the past 2 months and absolutely no elevation in the enyzmes (globulins were slightly elevated on one of the test but then returned to normal) everything else is fine, however my WBC count continues to climb, started at about 10,000 and now am up to 10,900...

If i had autoimmune hepatitis would my enzyme leveles be elevated, if that is what is causing my symptoms...

Is it worth talking to my doctor about, or do normal lab results rule it out?  I'm 20 years old and have otherwise never really had any health problems....

Hi there....I believe your liver numbers would be quite high if you have autoimmune hepatitis.  Mine were in the 1600's....They started out not that high only about 30 pts high but they just kept climbing and climbing, until I started on medication.  It doesn't sound to me that you have auto hepatitis.  With your WBC continuing to rise it sounds like your body has some sort of infection or disease.  I would continue to have your Dr's looking...Have them running you through every test possible.
Best of Luck to you!!!

Have your doctor check for Leukemia!  Good luck and let us know what it is!

leukemia? really? does that cause all of the symptoms ive been having? could that cause upper abdominal pain?

Also..... general question: if a person's liver IS inflamed and is what is causing the upper right sided pain, would their labs (liver enzymes) definitely be elevated?
or can you have an inflamed liver causing you pain without and evidence on the blood labs??

You would not have a inflamed liver if your liver numbers are normal.  Dr's know there is a problem when your liver numbers are high because those numbers reflect how inflamed the liver really is.  That is really what hepatitis is.  It means "inflamed liver".  Now you either have viral hepatitis which are your Hep A, B, C etc.  The ones you can catch.  Or you have alcohol issues or you have autoimmune hepatitis.  That is not one you can catch rather it is one you are born with.  Something that can be passed on through the blood line to children, etc.
There are many, many other serious liver diseases but they all start with an inflamed liver.  High liver numbers...I had my worst liver pain when my numbers were at there highest.  That is just your liver telling you it is in trouble and being attacked (severely inflamed).  I don't know much about the leukemia issue, but check it out.  Read up on web sites and definitely talk to your Dr...

Great choice going to see your Dr.  We really don't know all the things that it can be.  And trust me, it can definitely be something little, we just don't know.  I'm sure they'll run a ton of tests.  At least your liver numbers are low.  So your liver
