Sinus problems not allergies - now salty

by KLN1957, Apr 21, 2008 01:50PM
I've been having a problem for years with constant post nasal drip causing a constant cough and sinus/ear infections.  I am trying to recover from a recent sinus infection with no luck.  This time is different.  I have not had a stuffed up or runny nose with this infection.  A couple of weeks ago everything started to smell and taste bad, like with a cold, and my ears had pressure.  My eyes were also sensitive to the sun and I was exhausted.  I am on the last day of my antibiotics.  The bad smell and exhaustion are still here.  It's been cloudy most of the past couple of weeks so I am not sure about my eye.  Another symptom has popped up.  The nasal drainage is very salty which is a completely new sinus issue for me.  (I did go on Benicar about a week before I got sick.)  Do you know what might be causing the lingering bad smell/taste and the salty taste?

Chronic sinusitis is a good possibility of being the cause of what you are describing.  Getting a CT scan of the sinuses should help to define the problem and help to determine the next steps in your treatment.
