pain in my lower back and pelvic area

by swarr03s, Apr 21, 2008 07:59PM
I've self diagnosed myself with PCOS. I've always had missed periods or completely absent periods since I first hit puberty. My Dr. did all the blood work, which I had to request, and never got back to me with the results. Finally on my next visit 6 mo. later he mentioned that my insulin levels were actually quite high. But then he never did anymore about it. And I guess I should mention that I have a family history of PCOS, both my aunt on my fathers side and my sister both have it and had a very hard time getting pregnant. My sister ended up having to have injections of fertility medication and ended up having invetro to become pregnant. Anyway... now myself I have been experiencing a lot of pelvic and lower back pain. How can I address this issue to my Dr. since he hasn't really mentioned PCOS to me and I'm having some severe pain that's becoming hard to bear. Any suggestions and help I'd appreciate. Thanks...

just tell him you did some research and has questions about pcos. mention that it runs in the family and you were concerned. if that doesnt work out then id consider a 2nd opinion!  did he happen to run a thyroid test? that can screw things up.

If you are having severe pain get back there and ask him to investigate.  You need to have a an abdominal and a transvaginal ultrasound.  Don't ignore your symptoms.
