Need advice

by concerned_wife2, Apr 22, 2008 06:41PM
My husband is 28 years old and was diagnosed at birth with mild cerebral palsy. He has simple partial seizures and functions pretty normally in a physical way. However, his emotions are a different story. He has emotional outbursts sometimes that seem to come from nowhere. He gets very angry at things that just seem so simple to everyone else. He has lost several jobs because of his temper. We have considered seeing a psychotherapist. Should we do this?

Agonizing,

Before you go the psychotherapy route, is your husband on medication for his seizures and has he been assessed recently for blood levels, eeg, evoke potential, mri, etc.  It might be time for a new work-up.  As you get older, the body's needs change and medication sometimes needs to be reassessed.    Coming from a parent who has a child with cerebral palsy and who has all types of seizures, my answer would be "Yes" get psychotherapy once these other tests have been completed if there is no change in his temper.  Just so you know, this isn't terribly uncommon with some epileptics and people with c.p....can you imagine how frustrating it must be for him sometimes.  If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

He's trying to fight it off and it annoys him..he just needs to be surrounded by those who understand...make plans for him to work for himself so that he could stay away from the jcats.
