Question about preemie with encephalomalacia and microcephaly caused from automobile accident before birth

I have a question regarding my neice's condition.She was injured before birth in an automobile accident.After 3 long months in the NICU she was finally released.She has been diagnosed with encephalomalacia.Also, her head and brain have grown very little (is that microcephaly?). Doctors have said that there is no way to predict her future.At this moment she is eating by bottle on her own.,moving around quite a bit, opening her eyes and trying to focus on things.Will the brain/skull not growing cause her condition to get worse.I didnt know if it puts pressure on everything up there.Her eyes are fine, but an opthamologist has said that the nerves are not growing and could cause her to go blind.Her hearing seems fine right now.Is this a condition that will get worse over time.The doctors just tell us to wait and see, which is very hard considering her mother suffered severe head trauma as well and cannot even comprehend that this is her child.Any info would be helpful.
