Concern for my mental health.

by Magical_Moose, Apr 22, 2008 08:30PM
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out if I have ADD or not.
I thought the internet might give me more information

This issue is my biggest concern.
I can't seem to focus of school work, I can't even tell if it's because I'm not trying.
I feel like I can't even think anymore, I just prefer to zone out and stay that way. But when I try hard to actually think, It's a difficult struggle to get myself out of my blank state of mind and actually think about things, (This usually applies to Math, physics, and lately topics were I have to write an opinion, or evaluate something... Which is school in general.) If my school work requires actual thought, I can't seem to make up my mind. And when I try to think up of ideas, I forget them. If my work is math related, I just stare at my page..

When I did a little research of my own, I found that I seem to have almost all the symptoms listed on this website.
http://www.****.org/mental/adhd_add_adult_symptoms.htm#signs

I often question if I may have a mental disorder, but I fear to find out I if do. I don't want to become like my older brothers who suffers from mental issues. I fear to find out I have an issue and then end up using it as a crutch, an excuse not to try, or to justify my actions. As I often have seen. I also sometimes  feels like its taking the easy way out of my problems.

But I was wondering if anyone could give me anymore detail about the symptoms.

The best thing you can do is see your doctor.  Here is a simple test that may help.  Does coffee calm you down or make you feel more focused?  If so, You may be ADD.  Caffeine usually has the opposite effect on people with ADD.  You seem concerned about mental disorders.  It is really easy to read a list of symptoms and think that you are messed up!  (Don't read a book on abnormal psychology until you feel well adjusted).  I would start with the ADD factor and go from there.  There is also a thing called neuro feedback done by a neuropsychologist.  They do exercises to teach your brain to focus.  Good luck and God bless.

Sorry for taking so long to respond, and thank-you for your feedback. I don't know about coffee (I don't like the taste unless it's a mocha,) but I do eat chocolate very often, I think almost every day. I will watch and see what kind of effect caffeine has on me, but I won't jump to any conclusions.

I did make an appointment,
And thanks again :)
