5 year old under 30 lbs with belly pain

Hi,

I am hoping you might some suggestions. My daughter just turned 5 and has had pain since she was 22 months old.  One of her first full sentences was "mommy, my tummy hurts".  At that time she was given a dx of failure to thrive, her weight was way below the 3rd %ile.  She was put on Prevacid and an enriched diet including DuoCal. Over the next year, we finally got her weight onto the chart with fewer complaints of pain. She had blood testing and skin allergy testing, I already knew she was alergic to carrots, but nothing else showed up, including Celiac.  Prevasid was stopped 2 years ago.

Then, about 6 months ago, she again started complaining of almost daily pain and started loosing weight again.  It was not releived by deficating or eating. She weighed 28 lbs at 4 1/2.  She was put back on Prevacid which did nothing for pain or appetite/weight.  Back to the gastro; had bloodwork and stool occult blood testing done.  Again, negative for Celiac, no blood in stool, normal stools (except sometimes whiteish/greyish in color), food log showed that she was eating just enough calories after starting back with the Duocal, which she is still on. Over the next 6 weeks we got her weight up to 30 lbs.  She was given the dx of "functional abdominal pain".
She had stomach flu a week ago and is not yet back on a normal diet (unable to tolerate milk so far) and I am sure her weight is now back in the 20s.  She is complaining several times daily of pain, and has been for weeks. Gastro wants to see her do more a scope.

She now is giving up foods previously eaten, gets "stomach flu" or vomits for no apparent reason (now 5-6 times per year), carrot allergy, seems to have outgrown it, but doesn't eat them

Any other suggestions or insights? One odd thing is that her poop has no smell at all.    My daughter is normal in every other respect, thankfully.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks!

You did not mention if they tested for Crohn's disease. Did you ever stop giving her wheat products for a while and it sounds like she was not been scoped for Celiac disease. Your daughter and you have been through a lot. Suggest a scope to really see what is happening because of the constant pain so she can be treated properly. If you are still not satisfied maybe look for another MD. Best of luck and thank you for your question.
