My 15 month old neice has a delayed milestone kind of things

by malay347, Apr 23, 2008 09:09PM
She is just 14 months old. She was born prematurely at 8 months. At birth she was LBW(low birth weight), a mere 5lbs.she was very weak at that time. She started holding the neck up around 8 months. She had already started utterring words like da da, baba at 10 months. All of a sudden she has stopped calling da da, mama........ we are in constant touch with a family paediatrics. He performed T3, T4 and the TSh levels. All found out to  be normal. He had advised for the head scan as well. that also appears normal. Now she is responding to sounds. She is grasping, holding things when shown to her. She has started recognising people. The only problem is she is not sitting on her own though she is trying to. When given support she sits.
To narrate the back ground, My sister is going a kind of marriage tormoil. it has started since the pregnancy. As during her pregnancy, she was in a stress situation, my mom is scared that, are these delayed milestones or signs of mental retardation.
Our doctor says that as she has born prematurely and that too a lbw, it will take time to behave properly. he has advised neurocetam . she is taking neurocetam for almost three months. She has improved .Her diets and the weight are good.
Please advise us how to go about the case.
Regards,
Dr.Malaya
