The research I've done suggests two possible explanations: 1) too much relaxin and 2) round ligament pain.
Apparently, the hormone relaxin is making our pelvic bones soften in preparation for the birth. If the pain becomes severe, it can be a sign of a much more serious condition called SPD. Let's hope that's not the case for us!! For more information, visit this site: http://www.baby-pregnancy-ultrasound-3d-4d.co.uk/Pregnancy-SPD.htm
I found information about round ligament pain, on this website:
http://www.babycenter.com/0_round-ligament-pain_205.bc
It says the pain doesn't usually start until the second trimester, but the description seems like what I'm feeling. The best part is there are some tips for making the pain go away! Hope this helps! :-)
