I've got to throw this out here

I looked at what I have purchased to help with these withdrawals. My table is covered with vitamins, melatonin & many other potions & snake oils. I'm taking almost as many pills now as I was hydrocodones before. I really don't know if they have helped or not, in all honesty. I do think that the sooner a person quits taking all this stuff, and stops relying on any kind of pills, the better off they'll be. Just my thought at the moment, don't beat me up too much. It seems more of a psychological crutch than anything else. nuff said.

The supplement stuff can't hurt. My problem is feeling that I need to take some pills regularly. Maybe I'm missing a bit of relief feeing that way, but we are all different in some ways, even though we share much trouble. I think you owe it to yourself to give them a shot. It's obviously right for many. I wish you every comfort. Don't give up quitting. I feel so much better at 11 days than I did at 5 or 6 or 7. The w/d are a bad deal, I wouldn't try to kid you about that (I expect you know that from experience), but you're up to it, I believe. You've encouraged me in the past few days, and I appreciate that. None of us can afford in any way to continue to use.

It could be alot to do with a mental need ...something to follow...something to hold on to...I do see a physical application to it tho...but at this point i will give it a shot...nothing to lose but a bit of money and I have sure lost enough of that on pills..i want to feel normal  ...or close anyway

i think the vitamins and minerals suggested are to replace what we lose when we are wd'ing.  our bodies go through a lot of shock when we wd.  the supplements help us to heal more quickly from the damage done to us by both the long term drug use and the wd's.  especially the stress vitamins.  i know i didn't eat well at all when i was on my pain meds.  had no desire for anything but sugar.  we need to replenish our bodies, in my opinion.

Worried: Yes, I tried taking the right amounts. I think my real problem was that I felt as though I was reinforcing the need to take pills all the time.
Joann: They upset me some too. But not nearly like the dope has upset all around me. If you feel they help you, break them up into several doses each day. Do what works, and good luck, Joann.

I got to GNC the other day and forgot my list and still spent $140....I do think they are good to restore what I have taken from my body with all the abuse I have put it through. However, I do get horrible stomach cramps when I take them....not just he w/d kind but the I just shoved a bunch of vitamins in my body kind.
Just my thoughts on it.

You bet, Paul, if it works, do it. Don't take my post wrong - I still have the supplements. I just can't tell a difference. After a couple of days of it, I really just kind of overlooked them. The weren't important to me not taking painkillers, for some reason. Truth told, I am trying to sustain an aversion to any pills, I guess.

Yes...I replaced some of my dwindling supply today and went "OUCH"  I was not real adherent to all the aminos and the dosages to take for a while..would take them but not like i should...when PAWS hit I re-evaluated and read up on it...It is worth a shot to adhere to the schedule for a month or so..then i will trim it down and stay only on my essentials like Bs..C...multi...calcium,,may never give up tyrosine or theanine...will stick with the methionone/SAMe/cheaper! and 5htp...that is enough for me to swallow in a day

i boosted GNC earnings this month. i understand cj's point, but I really need to eat better and workout more. I'm giving it a try. too early to tell, however I have taken other supplements in the in past and noticed a difference, esp during long trips or work days. if it helps me through the fatigue, well its worth it to me.

It was the best $200 I spent weather it was all pysch or not.  It made me 30 days clean as of today.  Seems to me some people should maybe give it a try on this forumn.  I see alot of people relapsing or are just so involved with giving out negative vibes to others cause the Vitamins did not work for them.

Whey back then we wouldn't hesitate to spend $200 on pills to get us high no would we?

So what yea they are hard to swallow take one at a time if it takes you 5 minutes to get them all down.  It has been well worth it for me and hope it does for other newbies.  Oh and by the way I took Clonidine to help the leg cramps.  I guess I wasn't in charge of my body and mind.

To any of you new people.  Take whatever makes you feel good and comfortable to get thru the gosh damn withdrawals...

Worried:

That may very well be the case. I took the pills for a condition that warranted using them,   in the beginning, then began abusing them, though that original condition remains, and always will. I was diagnosed with chronic PTSD before the pill thing started, but I've never really taken that seriously. May be something to it, doesn't really matter as far as the pills are concerned. As for the aminos, vitamins & such, I've taken them, and will again, if push comes to shove. I'd eat a live toad to keep from taking a painkiller.

I read a book on restoring balance to your brain and I see now where all the aminos come into play....theory is that your brain chemistry was out of balance and you used to kind of self medicate...to correct those imbalances..it is true that after I quit, I did see some mood imbalances were still there that may have contributed to my abusing narcotics...agree...too many pills to take and I feel like a pill disposal but I do see the logic behind it..and i can not fit all of them in everyday

A good multi-vitamin and a extra B-complex boost is as good as your gonna get.  All that amino junk is just that.....In my personal opinion.  Withdrawal is what it is.  It shows you who's in charge.

OK:
I figured I'd catch a lot of flack over that post. I took them for a few days, and I honestly don't know if they physically help or not. It just seems that trading one pill for another may be the way they help the most. That's great, if it works for you, you should do it. I believe that I could take a whole bottle of melatonin, and play solitaire all night. It obviously works for many people here, and I wish it did for me. L-Tyrosine, 500mg = 4 pills at a time, B6, B12, vitamins, minerals, wow-wee! It's a bunch to try to swallow, and maybe that's the magic in it for some. I don't want to ever have to carry pills with me again.

I only took 2 multi vitamins a day. I do think they helped becasue I didn't eat lot when I was taking the pills, so I replenished some of the vitamins that I hadn't taken in.

I didn't take any of the vitamins and herbal pills reccommended.  I think it helps some people feel better so that is why they use them.  You have to do what works best for you.  I agree taking to much, even if it is an herbal supplement isn't a good idea.  Stop taking them if you don't want to, don't force yourself to take something that doesn't make you feel like it is helping.

i did the same thing by day 5 i said wtf im trading one for another and junked just about everything i normally didnt use anyway. I always used melatonin or l-theanine anyway so that didt matter. But the 5 htp, sam-e, st johns, etc were actually making me worse. I stopped em and immediately started getting better. Gotta let the brain come back on its own or with as little as possible. Thats why i c/t opiates but xanax an ambien too.
