Yeast Infection Help!

by jamiejackcorn, Apr 24, 2008 01:52PM
I need advice for chronic yeast infections. Last year in January, I developed burning, redness and pain during sex around the opening of my vagina.. I didn't know what it was so it was left untreated for like 9 months.. My doctor gave me a prescription for Yeast Infection pills and the pain went away. Then a month later, it came back, I got the pills again and it then too went away. Then 2 months after that.. I got it again. (Mind you.. all this time.. I used OTC yeast infection creams, ovules, suppositories.. none work or have ever worked for me) So this last time that I have had it.. I started dating AZO Yeast and Nature Made Acidophilus tablets.. the pain went away.. But now I'm starting to feel a little discomfort again (it's right before my period) How can it make this all go away for good?

Hello,

It can be very difficult to make chronic/recurrent vaginal yeast infections "go away" for good.  One possible approach is 6 months of weekly Diflucan (ketoconazole) for suppression.  Talk to you physician about this option.  Many women will find their infections clear and remain clear, however ~30% do relapse.

Best regards,

Thank you I sure will.

I was also browsing the net and I found out that maybe my toilet paper (Charmin) is what is causing this recurring problem? I've been using it for years so would it be abnormal to just all of a sudden cause yeast infections?

Hallo just seen your post.

I had the same problem for almost 2 years on and off of yeast infection. I know what you are just talking about. My doc. subscribed a lot of defferent cure but did not go. I was one day on the computer and went to a herbel site which mentioned Garlic to be one of the best yeast infection cure, some women dress it in the viginal. I thought way not try it, i used to chop 1 - 2 cloves of garlic depending how big the garlic is that is. I would chop in small pieces and drink it down with water. I did this for almost two weeks. The only disadvantage is that your body will smell of garlic. I just had to do it and since then i haven't had this for now 4 months, so i have made it a point that after 5 months i repeat the same again whether i have it or not just to be on the safeside. Before taking this i had to won my husband about the garlic smell. And thank God he agreed, well he also had no choice because so many times he got the infected from me and did not want to make love with me any more. And i could understand it, but now all is fine again.

So why not try it. If it works well and good if not at list you would have tried. Our bodies may not be the same.

Good luck and let me know how it gose.

Hello,
Just read your post. I know how your feeling. Please read my post CHRONIC YEAST/ENDO/IBS and read all the remedies my doctor and I have have tried. You need to get on a product called Probiotics. I use the brand Renew Life Ultimate Vaginal Flora supoort 50 cultures per capsule(thats the good bacteria put back into your body) also I take GARLIC tablets. (instead of crushing real--YUK!!) Also I use Yeast Arrest while on your period (its a Boric acid suppository) at night. I just got the Mirena IUD inserted this morning. My doctor is hoping that it will help. I have been taking Birth control pills for 14 years and she feels that taking them systemically is causing the problem. So I'm crossing my fingers that this works seeing that this last yeast infection lasted 4 weeks. Also no sex during the whole time of the treatment. We've been together for 9 years so one month of me in pain my husband luckily has patience. I know its soooooo frustating. Also get the book the Yeast Connection and follow it. Cutting out bad carbs and sugars is the first thing you have to do. Yeast feed on that!! Plus you'll lose weight. I lost 4 pounds in the last few weeks doing it. I have researched and talked to Women Centers about this. If you have any questions please ask. Also look into genitan violet have your dr apply that for you. Its costly but was covered by my Insurance. Even though I bought a bottle from Walgreens website for $5.00 and apply at home using a tampon. Well hope some of this inforamtion helps.

Thanks guys. I've switched up my toilet paper, I take AZO Yeast & Nature Made Acidophilus tablets.. it seems to have gone away but, usually it starts back up again before my period. I read online that toilet paper that has scents and chemicals in them can cause them.. Maybe that's me? I didn't know Charmin had that stuff but I read online that it does! I have a doctor's appointment Tuesday about this, I'll see what they tell me, it really seems like it would be a shame to have to be on all sorts of vitamins, medications, creams my whole life.. I'll let y'all know.

The nurse practitioner wouldn't see me because I wasn't having the symptoms at the time of appointment. She wrote me a prescription for Diflucan but wouldn't put me on a 6mo 1x weekly plan.
